Come have some fun…all inside the Sea Pines neighborhood!
Sea Pines Beach Club and Coast Restaurant
The Sea Pines Beach Club is accessible to both renters and owners. It’s a wonderful place for your beach day in that it includes chair and umbrella service, walk-up bar, a small surf store a quick-service cafe, outdoor showers, and bathrooms.
Coast is a great place for an outdoor lunch, happy hour, or a quasi-fancy dinner (think of sundresses and Tommy Bahama shirts).
Directions: The Beach Club is a 2 mile bike from the house…straight down Sea Pines Drive towards the Ocean Gate. Parking is hard/impossible to come by during beach hours, but more available for dinner.
South Beach Marina
Kayaks, stand-up paddle boarding, the Salty Dog !
South Beach is at the southern most tip of Hilton Head Island where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Calibogue Sound (pronounced Cali-bogie).
The Salty Dog is an internationally known meeting spot and it’s absolutely imperative that you buy a few t-shirts to take home. Getting a seat for lunch or dinner can require quite a wait during busy seasons, so consider a late lunch/early dinner or just grab a drink from the bar and enjoy it on the Pier. There’s also an ice cream store and pizza place.
Salty Dog also offers a late afternoon “booze cruise” and a sunset dinner cruise.
Pro Tip 1: Check out Salty Dog’s website for webcam selfies.
Pro Tip 2: Don’t miss the two talking parrots!
Island Water Sports offers leisurely kayak safaris and other options. Call ahead as they’ve been having difficultly finding guides.
Directions: South Beach is a little over a mile from the house straight down Sea Pines Drive away from the Ocean Gate. It’s a super easy bike ride, but also not a bad walk if you plan to hang out at the bar for a bit.
Harbor Town
You’ve seen this lighthouse before! You just might not have known where it is.
Harbor Town is a special kind of place. The lighthouse sits at the entrance to the harbor and for a small fee, you can climb the stairs for a panoramic view of the harbor and the Calibogue Sound.
Harbor Town has plenty of specialty shops and restaurants that make it a nice place to spend a few hours walking around and gawking at the yachts moored in the harbor.
The Quarterdeck bar and restaurant is the anchor of Harbor Town and an institution. Check out the sunsets during happy hour!
The iconic lighthouse sits at the end of the 18th hole of the Harbor Town Golf Links where the Heritage Classic PGA Tournament is played every April (1 week after The Masters). This is one of four golf courses in Sea Pines. You can play it, but it’s fairly costly. For free, you can walk on the apron of the 18th green or stroll past the club house and putting green.
Next to the club house is The Inn at Harbor Town which is a quaint hotel that might inspire a late afternoon drink on the patio.
H2O Sports (behind the lighthouse) is the neighborhood place to go for kayaking, jet skis, parasailing, and dinner cruises.
Vagabond Cruises offer a variety of cruises such as Dolphin Watching, Sunset Dinner, Fireworks, and even a Pirate cruise! Many others available so be sure to check out their website for cruise types and timings.
Directions: Harbor Town is less than 3 miles away from the house so walking is a bit too far. Biking on the leisure trails is easy (follow the signs and the other bikers) or take a short drive and you’ll find parking is plentiful.
Biking & Leisure Trails
Bikes are a MUST to experience Sea Pines.
Golf carts are not allowed (it would be too crazy) so bikes are the main form of transportation in Sea Pines. There are miles of leisure trails both within Sea Pines and around the rest of Hilton Head. The trails keep you away from traffic and allow you to get just about anywhere you want to go.
Use bikes for a morning or afternoon ride, to get to the beach, to get to The Salty Dog or Harbor Town, or even to bike to the grocery store (Harris Teeter or Publix) to grab a few items.
Directions: Bikes are readily available from several rental places within Sea Pines. They are relatively cheap ($50/week) and very convenient (rental companies will deliver bikes before you arrive and pick-up after you leave).
Horse Back Riding
You probably passed Lawton Stables after entering Sea Pines on the way to the house. Feel free to bike over a view the horses. Or, if you are feeling adventurous, you can sign-up for an hour-long trail slow walk thru the Sea Pines Forest.
Directions: Lawton Stables is probably 3 miles from the house, so either a good bike ride or a quick car ride. Parking is plentiful. Head back towards the main Greenwood Gate.
Golf, Tennis, & Pickleball
If you want to play golf within Sea Pines but don’t want to pay for the privilege of playing the iconic Harbor Town Golf Links, try Heron Point by Pete Dye or Atlantic Dunes by Davis Love III. Both are fabulous golf courses.
Directions: The shared club house for both courses is 2 miles up Sea Pines Drive towards the Ocean Gate.
Tennis & Pickleball is readily available in both Harbor Town and South Beach. South Beach organizes both competitive pickleball tournaments and social pickleball round robins on almost a daily basis.
